Quality Child Care
In the last weeks we have been talking about quality child care in my Introduction to Teaching course. Research tells us that quality child care contributes to the cognitive and emotional development of children. This results in lower levels of delinquency, teenage pregnancy, drug use, and dropout rates resulting in high earnings later in life and greater marital stability. Whew! Why isn't everyone on the bandwagon for quality child care? I guess the answer is money...but not the only answer. Many critics emphasize that children are better off with mom (or dad) staying home rather than looking for quality care. Unfortunately, that ideal is unrealistic for many families. Single parent households do not have the luxury of choice in the matter. Quality child care is an issue for most single parent households and at-risk families. Many state governments (including my own state) have failed to adequately fund child care for families in need. A study published in Education Week in 2004 found that every dollar invested in quality child care would prove an economic return of 13 dollars in the child's future education. I think it is worth the initial investment.

I agree that more focus should go to quality child care in this country. Unfortunately child care is big business and the state and government know it. When you look at the most recent topics of our newly elected President. I think we can see the honest intentions made by him and his administration. I only wonder how long is it going to take to make put his and our views a reality with in the child care world.
I totally agree with about the importance of quality childcare. I have been in the field for ten years and every day my passion for teaching grows. I believe that children need a strong foundation to ensure a well rounded life.
I also agree that the focus should be on quality childcare and there are good ones out there. I have work for one company for the past 10 years and have loved every minute of it. But we do get a lot of calls which result in not helping parents find the childcare they want because of the cost.
I agree. I believe that some parents get so caught up in their own hectic lives that they just pick a child care center that is close to their house and just go with it. Sometimes they don't have the time to research the center to find out what curriculum is being used, what the child is learning. I think that sometimes we should take time out of our busy schedules to make sure that our children are getting the jump start that they need and that starts with choosing quality child care.
Quality child care is very important. Children who stay at home with their parents do not improve their social skills as much as a child in child care. Many aspects of development of a child is touched in a quality child care. I think it is important that everyone is able to send their children to a child care that helps build a base for their future education. Many people wish this of their children, but cannot afford it. It is important that children go to a child care that they can benefit from. Some child care centers do not have resources that really make an impact on a child's life. Every child deserves a good and beneficial start of their education.
Quality childcare should be a priority for every family in this country. Why would you settle for less?
